A Peek at our Week 2011: Week 27

The Hilton Head Vacation Edition

Saturday, July 2

The house that we rent has a pool in the backyard, which according to Jack makes it "a dream house!"  As soon as we pull into the driveway, the boys start asking to go swimming.  This year, Brent suggested that we let them travel in their swimsuits, so they would be ready to swim as soon as we arrived.  Ge-nius!

Our cousin Brady is at the age where big boys rock, and he wants to do just what the big boys are doing.  And since Jack is the oldest of the cousins, there was alot of hero-worshipping going on.  Brady wanted to play what Jack was playing, build whatever Jack was building, sit by Jack at dinner, etc.  And Jack is one that really appreciates that kind of admiration.  I just love this picture because you can see the "Jack Love" on Brady's face!

One of our family's vacation traditions is to participate in the Firecracker 5000 5K race.  Each year the family participants vary, and this year Karen and I ran the 5K while Gramma, Granddaddy, Cal and Jack walked.  Don't the boys look cute in their Uncle Sam hats?!?!  Cal was hoping the hat would be the clincher for getting his picture in the newspaper!

At home, we don't do big breakfasts...it's usually what-can-you-grab-quickly-as-you're-rushing-out-the-door type breakfasts.  But on vacation, breakfast is a big deal...a big breakfast every morning before everyone scatters to play, read, ride bikes, and relax.  Today, Brent and his sous chef Jack treated us to beignets, which has now become a new vacation tradition.

Wednesday, July 6

It's not all sand, surf and sun around here...we even manage to throw in a few arts & crafts projects, too.  Here, Will and Brady are painting Brady's beach themed suncatcher.  When I asked Will if he wanted me to get his suncatcher to paint, both boys piped up, "No, we're using teamwork!"  They are too precious!

Brent read about a little farmer's market in Bluffton that happens every Thursday, so we thought we would check out the local offerings.  One of the unexpected treats was "The Music Man's" tent.  When we walked up, he was singing Broadway show tunes, but as more children gathered, he turned off the mic and turned on the synthesizer's line dance music.  And a throw-down, hip-hop, feelin' the beat dance party broke out!

Friday, July 8

Another vacation tradition is Bananas Foster (have you noticed how many vacation traditions we have?  We are the most non-spontaneous, creature of habit family ever! haha).  This is Granddaddy's thing...and he plays up the drama well by having the boys gather around with the lights off while he lights the match for FIRE!  Whenever you can incorporate fire into your dessert, that is just ACES to little boys!
